This nature morte was made to encompass every part of my life. The Shabbat candle represents my Jewish identity. The lemon is to remember the land I came from. The teapot is for my Russian parents who raised me on tea. The tajine represents the importance of community because it was a gift from our Moroccan neighbors. This work was a study of shadows, framing, and depth from observation.
This project was an abstract study of perspective without reference using 2 points. It is not meant to be realistic or proportionate. It is an experience on how many shapes could be added before the stucture becomes unrecognizable.
This piece was a study about textures and perspective. It was made by deconstructing parts of real bugs and randomly recombining them to create unrecognizable hybrids. The viewers should not be able to distinguish the bugs that were used as reference. The project demonstates how textures change with perspective. The closer the bugs are the more detailed they are. The further, the more unnoticeable the textures become.
A study on how art translates in different mediums. The original piece (5) was made by Studio Ghibli. It was drawn by hand and painted before being digitized for the movie Howl's Moving Castle. It served as a starting point for this project and as a first reference. The second step (4) was drawn by me using watercolor. The last step was painting on a 3D object using the watercolor painting as reference. This project is meant to demonstrate how interpretation, medium, dimension, and size affect the way we create art.
This painting was made by using acrylic paint mixed with textile medium. It was my first attempt at painting/drawing on a surface other than paper. It was an excercise about drawing on a textured surface and managing layers so it could be worn without breaking the painting. The unique style of the movie inspired me to create a piece outside of my comfort zone.
